As the Architect of Record for the San Antonio Central Library, Johnson-Dempsey & Associates, Inc. worked closely with Ricardo Legorreta as the Design Consultant for the project. We led a team of professionals through all phases of the work from the design competition, schematic design, to construction, to ensure the completed facility reflected Legorreta’s vision for the library.
The design of the 240,000 square foot library utilizes bold, striking colors on the exterior and throughout the building. Its complex series of geometric forms organized around a six-story sky-lit atrium creates an interplay of light and shadow both inside and outside. Exterior roof terraces provide expansive views across the city that the Central Library serves.
Completed in 1995, the Central library stands in downtown San Antonio as a bold example of Ricardo Legorreta’s architectural genius.
